The process of getting a driving license in Sri Lanka ?
- Book an appointment at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), Werahera.
- Register at DMT with required documents (NIC, birth certificate, medical certificate).
- Pass the written test to get a learner’s permit (valid up to 18 months).
- Practice driving with the learner’s permit for at least 3 months.
- Pass the practical driving test at age 18 or older.
Receive a temporary license on passing the practical test; the official license card is mailed later.
What is the first thing to do to get the driving licence ?
The first thing to do is to get a medical fitness certificate from the National Transport Medical Institute (NTMI) in Nugegoda. This confirms that you are healthy enough to drive.
How Long Does It Take to Get a Driving License ?
The entire process takes 3 and half months, primarily because of the mandatory learner’s permit period and the time needed to schedule exams.
